Ajith R. , Scientist, ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India

Abstract

This study provides an in-depth analysis of global and national trends in tuber crops production, focusing on their historical trajectories and future prospects. Tuber crops, including potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava, and yams, constitute a vital component of food security and agricultural economies worldwide. Through the examination of production data, technological advancements, and market dynamics, this research sheds light on the evolving landscape of tuber crops. It explores factors affecting production, such as climate change, pest pressures, and shifting consumer preferences, while also highlighting innovations in cultivation and post-harvest practices. The study's findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders interested in the sustainable development of tuber crops production on both global and national scales.
